It had 27,642 eligible voters (2011).The town proper has about 11,000 inhabitants. The municipality includes several villages, including Aguda, Antibióticos, Arnal, Cedrim, Celeirós do Mondego, Celeirós do Rio Alva, Cortegaça, Covas, Fajão, Fornos, Gafanha da Nazaré, Gafanha da Encarnação, Lousã, Mealhada, Moita, Palhais, Pedorido, Póvoa de Midões, Quintela, Seixezelo, São Martinho de Mouros, Tabuadelo, Vale de Cambra and Vila Nova de Oliveirinha.
